La Lupa

Description

This video was created for the project «Tevereterno», gathering several American and Italian artists for an animation on the theme of the capitoline wolf. These creations were projected at the solstice of summer 2006, at night, on the banks of the Tiber river, between the Sisto and Mazzini bridges, where we can see today the work of Wiliam Kentridge.

Themes

Roman mythology:

The capitoline wolf is a bronze sculpture preserved in Rome, representing the legend of Romulus and Remus : deposited on the Tiber in a wicker basket, the twins are collected by a wolf at the foot of the Palatine Hill, in front of the entrance of the Lupercal cave. The animal have fed and protected them. Having become adults, the two brothers return to their place of abandonment and found the city of Rome.

Extract without sound

Technique

Ink on a transparent oilbar background on white paper. The drawings are then photographed, interposing a curved glass between the drawings and the camera. So the negative is reversed during editing.

Contents

  • Video loop 5’30
  • In addition : 6 original drawings size A4
