Sawako Kabuki

Born in 1990 and a graduate of the Tama University of Fine Arts, the artist and filmmaker has received awards from numerous international film festivals, including Sundance, Annecy, Ottawa, Zagreb, Rotterdam and SXSW.

Her approach and creative ambition – therapeutic and free of inhibitions – explore the material of her subconscious to liberate worlds often regarded as shameful. She reveals familiar associations through intuitive, almost automatic strokes. The repetitive, almost meditative, actions required to produce her drawings come to life through the multitude of animated figures present in the exhibition.
